PDA South Africa Delegation Returns

In 2020, a delegation from the Lead Support Bureau travelled to South Africa to explore the viability of LEAD in the cities of Durban, Pretoria and Cape Town.

Out of this exploration grew a collaboration with the team at Advance Access in Delivery, which is headquartered in Durban and is a partner in the Bellhaven Harm Reduction Centre. This collaboration led to a follow-up visit to Durban in September of this year where Najja Morris-Frazier and Brendan Cox visited the Centre and met with key partners on advancing the LEAD model. PDA is excited to share that Tara Moss, Tiarra Dearbone Bryant, and Brenton Zachary recently traveled to South Africa to continue these collaborative efforts.

The PDA team first headed to Pretoria to take part in the African Law Enforcement Public Health conference, where they joined leaders from across Africa to learn from one another about innovative public safety solutions that cross the intersection of law enforcement and public health. They had the opportunity to be part of two presentations, one highlighting the collaboration in Durban and another focusing on the evolution of the work in Seattle. The team then traveled to Durban, where they were able to support and learn from our colleagues at Advance Access in Delivery.
